Pedalling Time: 6hrs
Weather: Dull, but mild!!
After an early start and a tasty cooked breakfast we set off for Regent's Park, avoiding many cars by the skin of our teeth, especially when we thought we were faced with some head on in road works! Alex's Austraaalian relatives were there to send us off, and with the blow of a whistle we began our grand adventure to the wilds of the north. Thanks to many canalside routes we managed to get out of London fairly easy. Upon escaping the fumey clutches of London we eventually arrived at Saffron Walden, after having been waved at madly by that biker guy from the TV programme 'Rogue Traders' who hunts down and kills plumbers of disrepute.
Saffron Walden YHA is a quaint little place...and very basic too. Slumber was taken in a Tudor hall, with oak beams and whattle and daub walls (and smelt like it too); the reception was even visible through the floorboards of the dorm. Unfortunately Vincent couldn't be bothered to cook us an evening meal (although we found this to be a blessing when we sat down to breakfast the next day) and went to the local Wetherspoons where we had an incinerated beef and mushroom pie, of which Alex's contained a singular charred mushroom. YUM!
